Therapeutic Overview

Fairways care endeavors to meet the needs of the most challenging and complex children in the care sector.

Fairways is continually developing it’s own therapeutic ethos in consultation of Dr Alexander Burnfield FRCpsych.

Practical day to day therapeutic interventions and strategies are supervised by a team of skilled practitioners. There qualifications range from basic counseling qualifications to an MA in Therapeutic Childcare.

Therapeutic Approaches

Our therapeutic approach to childcare aims to be an holistic strategy encompassing ethical, spiritual, educational, social, emotional and behavioral issues.

Staff group discussions are frequent and structured enabling an ongoing development of professional skills and practical application.

Staff monitor and assess the needs of the child and the different stages that a child must progress through in order to effect change. These can be categorised as engagement, the development of a positive relationship, physical containment and personal growth.

Staff development and reflective practice promotes a culture of understanding. This enables more positive therapeutic interventions and improves communication within the staff teams and the organisation.

Cornloft Creative and Therapeutic Arts Studio
Many of the young people in placement attend a therapeutic arts studio where they are tutored by Jeff Walker. In this setting they are able to explore some of the more complex issues if they choose to with someone who is closely involved with the therapeutic process of the company

Consultation, Supervising and Training

Dr Alexander Burnfield FRCPsych facilitates group discussions with staff on specific issues as and when they arise. In addition he conducts planned Practice Skills Coaching sessions geared towards enabling staff to explore a range of different behaviours and therapeutic strategies.
