Fairways Foster Care upholds the principles embodied in the Children Act 1989, the Community Care Act 1990 and the Care Standards Act 2004.
We believe that wherever possible, children should be cared for in their immediate or extended families and within their own communities. However, when this is not possible, we will provide high quality care in a substitute family setting or in the case of our therapeutic children's home as close to a family setting as possible. We believe that both the child/young person and their parents need to be active participants in the planning process, as a child's long term welfare is generally improved by the sustaining of links with their nuclear family, extended family and friends.
Fairways Care aims to provide excellent care in a family setting. We have a commitment to a child-centred approach, and to providing all children/young people with consistency and stability, in order to enable them to reach their full potential. We will work in partnership with children/young people, their parents, foster carers and local authorities. Anti-oppressive /anti discriminatory practice will permeate all aspects of our work, taking into consideration also the sexuality, gender, and disability of children and young people. We will provide intensive support for all our staff, foster carers and young people.
This will be underpinned by a commitment to meeting the learning and training needs of all our foster carers and employees.
Many of the children placed with us have specific needs and require a higher level of supervision and support. We have the resources available in Fairways Foster Care to ensure that the needs of both the carers and looked after children are effectively met. We have access to experienced, skilled support workers and we will work together in an integrated, planned manner to ensure that the best possible packages of care are provided to the children placed with us.
In conjunction with Dr Burnfield FRC Psych our consultant in therapeutic approaches and other professionals involved, we will assess and plan for the therapeutic needs of a child placed. However, we will also provide professional therapeutic support to our foster carers. This will either be on an individual or group basis. At Fairways Foster Care we are committed to the belief that supporting and developing carer's will maximise the success of a placement and minimise the chances of disruption. In our experience, many foster care placements break down because the work with the child/young person is seen as totally separate from the work with the foster family. Professionals can often inadvertently contribute to these tensions, resulting in foster carers feeling distrustful and isolated. At Fairways Foster Care, we will seek to work with the child within the family context, helping to identify destructive and negative patterns of behaviour, and working holistically to develop strategies for change.
Fairways Care can offer long-term, short-term, emergency, respite and task-focused in accordance with the Local Authority plans for the young person. Any referrals or placement discussions can be made direct to the team who would be happy to help with placement needs or queries.
