When making the decision to become a foster carer an adult is also making the decision for their children to become part of a family that fosters. Fostering is a very significant change in anyone's life, even more so for the children within the family. This change can make for a great learning experience which is both challenging and rewarding for foster carer's children and family.

It is important to understand the role that a Carers own family and children can play to help make for a successful placement. You need to talk to any children living with you about how they feel about fostering and sharing there home and parents with a stranger. Fostering will affect them as much as it will affect you. Ask how they are feeling about sharing you and your time with another child. During the assessment process the social worker will discuss one to one with your children what they think about the idea of fostering.

Also as part of the fostering experience Foster carers’ children will enjoy outings and a range of fun activities.
