Overview of Application Process

During the initial contact between yourself and Fairways Care, we would register your interest and discuss any queries/issues raised. Please be aware that the formal approval process is a very thorough procedure, lasting several months. This necessitates a real commitment by the applicants from the outset.

We will not consider an application from anyone who has been approved as a foster carer by another fostering service provider and who currently has a young person in placement.

Following a telephone discussion, a home visit will be arranged to decide whether it is appropriate to continue. The home visit will be conducted by an experienced, qualified manager or principal social worker. An application form will be left with you for completion.

Once the completed application form is received the statutory checks (Criminal Records Bureau (CRB), Health, Education, Social Services etc.) will be initiated. A full medical will also be required by your G. P.

An independent experienced social worker will then contact you to start the assessment process.

This will involve several home visits with all members of the household in order to assess and evidence your skills and experience. It is an expectation that you will contribute to the report in written or other forms.

The completed assessment portfolio will be presented to the Panel, which is made up of professional people from health, social work, education etc. The Panel consider whether or not to approve you as carers. The approval will also recommend how many children/young people and what age range you should foster.

We adopt a clear communication approach at all times, and during any part of this process if it is deemed that your application is unsuccessful, we will inform you promptly and clearly of our decisions. if appointed, you will be contacted by your supervising social worker when a child/young person is referred for fostering, if we feel that you could best meet their needs. You will then, after consultation, decide whether to offer a placement.
